Located in Horry County, South Carolina, the city of North Myrtle Beach was created in 1968 and serves as one of the main tourist towns along the Grand Strand. The city is currently home to approximately 11,000 residents who enjoy the temperate climate and the laid back ambience of the low-country lifestyle. Residents travel in and out of town by way of U.S. Route 17, which is the major coastal highway connecting all areas of the Grand Strand, from Georgetown to Little River, and is bypassed to the west by S.C. Highway 31. For those flying into the area, the Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, NC airports provide quick access to all locations and attractions. Residents and visitors of North Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand know that the area is renowned for its over 100 world-class golf courses. Some prestigious courses include Grande Dunes, four signature courses at Barefoot Resort, Jack Nicklaus’ Long Bay Club, and Arnold Palmer’s Kings North, to name a few. North Myrtle Beach has many parks, a community recreation center and the new Aquatic Center which offer exercise, classes ranging from bridge to weight loss, sports programs and many other activities. There are festivals and parades year-round from St. Patrick’s Day to the annual fall migration of Shag Dancers with lots of food, vendors, live music and dance contests. Looking to fish? Then head out north to the Cherry Grove Pier, known locally as one of the best spots to fish along the East Coast.
