Residents of the communities of Carolina Forest, Forestbrook and Red Hill enjoy the quiet atmosphere of residential suburbs in addition to having easy access to the amenities of nearby Myrtle Beach. Located in Horry County, Carolina Forest, Forestbrook and Red Hill are less than 20 minutes by car from Myrtle Beach (some areas less than 10 minutes), the bustling tourist and metro center of the South Carolina coastline. Served by U.S. Route 501 (east-west) and by Hwy 31 (north-south), residents enjoy an easy commute into the city. The major local employing industries include tourism and related services, educational, health and social services and retail trade. This region of South Carolina evolved from a rural, agricultural community into a popular tourist destination as development grew in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The beauty of the land and its abundant waterways undoubtedly attracted visitors, including the Intercoastal Waterway and the Waccamaw River. Real estate options in the three communities consist of single-family detached homes, estate properties, condominiums, townhouses and land lots. Much of the residential development has occurred in recent years, so many homes have modern amenities and extensive community facilities, including swimming pools and tennis courts. Excellent schools of the Horry County School District serve students in grades K-12. Several colleges and universities are in close proximity for those who wish to pursue a degree in higher education. While services, attractions, golf, dining and shopping are plentiful just beyond these residential neighborhoods, Carolina Forest, Forestbrook and Red Hill still retain their suburban appeal and alluring natural beauty.

Carolina Forest Community & Education

As is common with many contemporary residential neighborhoods education is a top priority in this region of Horry County. The schools in the Carolina Forest area are known for being excellent, returning top academic performances by the students. Additionally, there are also college and university options within a reasonable distance. Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College are located in nearby Conway. Coastal Carolina maintains an enrollment of just over 4,000 students, while Horry-Georgetown Technical College has about 2,300 students. Francis Marion University and Florence Darlington Technical College are located in Florence, about 60 miles west of Forestbrook. The University of North Carolina also has a campus at Pembroke, which is about a two-hour drive by car.

Attractions/Points of Interest
For a faster-paced brand of fun, the tourist hot spot of Myrtle Beach offers an array of dining, shopping, entertainment and nightlife. There are a variety of performing arts and specialty entertainment venues, including the Alabama Theatre, the Carolina Opry and the Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show. The Broadway at the Beach complex also attracts many visitors. The 350-acre facility is home to over 100 shops, 20 restaurants and 10 nightclubs, plus specialty venues like the famous Ripley’s Aquarium.

Popular recreational activities revolve around the outdoors and the abundant waterways of coastal South Carolina. Boating, fishing and other water sports are available on the Intercoastal Waterway or Waccamaw River. Outdoor enthusiasts will particularly enjoy the oceanfront Myrtle Beach State Park. The park is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and a section of maritime forest, one of the last in this region. The 312-acre site includes camping and picnic facilities, cabins, sandy beaches and a fishing pier.
